Sarah Colon-Batista
Class of 1997
Sarah Batista, Reporter Channel 3 WBTV, Charlotte, NC was awarded the prestigious "2008 Television Feature" award by the National Hispanic Journalist Association for her 4 part series "Beyond the Border" that aired on WBTV, Chanenl 3 in May 2008. Sarah traveled with a group of community leaders to explore what drives ilegal immigration to the US. Sarah's documentary showed a side often times ignored--the consequences of ilegal immigration on children and familes left behind as well as those that come to the US. It featured a group of women that started a doll making factory so that their husbands would not come to the US.
Sarah will receive her award September 12, at the Press Club in Washington, DC.
