About Me	It started when a warrior friend was shot in the head in Afghanistan October 2007. After a few visits and many chats with those healing from multiple wounds, we saw many things that these courageous men and women were missing. The simplest things made them feel more at home. 4 pies, 10 candles, 8 glass scented squares & a 6 1/2 hr drive brought the smell of Thanksgiving to many rooms. We then learned that there are two “hotels” on the compound. A family of 5 shared a small room with two double beds and a mini fridge for more than 6 months. Those that didn’t have family to care for them were placed in the second “hotel” which provided efficiency apartments. There were no paper products (toilet paper, paper towels, etc), no wash cloths, towels, food, or bed linen. Our long term goal is to renovate a building right outside the compound to provide families with the accommodations they deserve and need for their sacrifice. Until then, we visit each room on each trip to ask what each family and patient need to help make their recuperation easier. We have provided diapers for their children, Glade Glass Scents, cookies, neck massagers, dry erase boards, markers, wide leg shorts, tear away pants and much more. We owe it to them to provide them with the best homecoming possible. The medical care at Walter Reed is outstanding and the staff is excellent.
