Class of 1970

After graduation, I attended Univ. of the Pacific for two years. Great school: it really straightened me out, academically. As a result, I qualified for a transfer to Cal Berkeley, and did so in the fall of 1972. I graduated in '74 with a useless Poli Sci degree, condemning myself to grad school. I resisted for about two years, traveling about in Europe, on the east coast, and in New Mexico, before applying to law school for the 1976 school year. The Univ. of California was happy to have me back, but only as a non-resident. I could not afford that tuition, but had not lived anywhere else long enough to become a resident of any other state. Because I was still in New Mexico at the time, I met with UNM law school admissions committee chair and pitched the problem. UNM Law agreed to treat me as a resident for all purposes, and I've never left. I passed the Bar in 1979 and have primarily practiced as a commercial, and wills, trusts and estates, litigator, since, all in the same firm. The work has been hard, mostly, but the life has been good. Things I learned how to do in New Mexico: to shoot skeet competitively, to fly fish, to sail and race sailboats, to ride motorcycles well and for long distances, and to cook all manner of New Mexican chile dishes. I may also have learned to be a decent husband and father, but my significant others will have to make those judgments.
