Class of 1964
Marine Corps, 6 Years
I was drafted into the U.S. Marines in September 1965. At that time, I was a migrant farm worker in Delano, California involved in the grape strike.
While in the Marines, I completed the military intelligence course at Fort Holabird, Maryland, and the one-year long Chinese Mandarin language course at the Defense Language Institute, Presidio of Monterey. It was followed by a short-term Vietnamese language course. I was then assigned to an interrogation unit in Vietnam. After Vietnam, I was assigned to a counter-intelligence agent in Japan. I also completed a six-month Japanese language course.
