About | Dear friend David Elliott (May 16, 1949-November 24, 2024) David Elliott has transitioned. I am so grateful for our time spent in collaboration on his legacy book, and in getting to know his son Graham, and his family. Since I returned to Portland, he’d become my dog Maebe’s Uncle Dave, as he adored hound dogs, and she loved being with him, spoiled with marrow bones. When Dave told me of his terminal cancer diagnosis, I asked if he wanted to be a collaborator in my Bardo Project, to publish a book of his writing. He was over the moon! We spent the past few months working together, I learned about a wild life well lived, as Dave shared stories and ephemera. His friend Caleb Spiegel @calebrex edited his writing, and Dardinelle Troen @ditroen did the book design, with cover artwork by dear friend Dan Reed @danreed2112 Dave really enjoyed the archeological dig into his memories and writing, and was often laughing! Focusing on the book gave him purpose, and was a welcome distraction from his declining heath. Dave had a great sense of humor and zen attitude about his health situation. Dave’s book, “Dream Fishing at the Drool Pond” a collection of short stories, poems, and memoirs, will be published in the coming months by the Bardo Project, with support by Soda/WERKS. It has been a crush of team effort to finish the rough draft layout before his death. On Friday, November 22 I arrived at the V.A. ICU with a copy in hand, just as his family arrived. When Dave saw it he was SO HAPPY! Seeing Dave and his family be excited made my heart feel it might burst with joy. Dave was soon discharged for home hospice. He had asked me to be his end of life doula. Saturday evening a few friends played music, shared stories, reiki, and read excerpts of his book to him. Early Sunday morning Dave transitioned peacefully in his creative space surrounded by his guitars, books, art, and rock collections with his son and family. Fly high Dave! I know that you’re already tapped into the universe, there’s a special mycelium constellation out there for you! |

Dave was my backyard neighbor. He was funny and adventurous as a kid. I wish his family well.
