In 1982, Charlie was diagnosied with gastric and esophageal cancer. Despite having more than half of his stomach and part of his esophagus removed, he lived cancer free until 2001. He was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in March of 2001. He had the head of the pancreas removed. He lived another year and passed away 8 days after his wife's sister died. Charlie was married and lived in Brewster, NY at the time of his death. I was very lucky that I was able to spend a lot of time with him before his death.
