James A. Thompson

Class of 1941

1958 My Brother, Everett (RHS -1937) and next door neighbor (Northwest Regional Manager for General Electric Company -- GE) interrupted a very important meeting in my Northern Life Office to ask me to take the visiting GE Theater Star (ronnie reagan) and his crew on a Saturday Fishing trip. Such was arranged and accomplished with an immensely successful trip to be entertained for 8 hours with tales, anecdotes, jokes, and philosophy (geo economics and geo-politics) by ronnie reagan plus with the desire for GE Electric to start a World Fair to compete with Russia and their Sputniik. AND SO, i was in on the desire of Seattle to originate an Alaskan Yukon Exposition 50th Anniversary -- which after 2 years of elaborate study was turned down -- leaving the plans and $6 million in escrow.. and so -- GE desire for a World Fair - we having plans for a n AYP World Fair and $6 million cash --- At the end of the charter (3PM) a phone call to buddy, Joe Gandy to arrange for Eddie Carlson and himself to have Sunday Breakfast with ronnie reagan and his PR crew of 5 to talk about a "possible" Seattle World Fair to find a home for the committed 15 World Tall Ships in a new possible to be Marina (Shilshole Bay - Howie Wright construction)) and compete via GE with the Russian Sputnik.
Teo weeks later over 25 PR representatives from around the United States met at the Olympic Hotel for 1 week - and on Friday signed commitments with deposits of around $100,000.00 each AND the SEATTLE/GE World Fair was underway.
ronnie sent me a Christmas personal letter every ear until his 2 term as US President.
AND - OH - The fishing trip off of Jefferson Head resulted in 10 salmon from 10-22 lbs beiong shipped throughout the United States compliments of Ronald Reagan, Host of the GE Theater.
Just Ask -- and a ton more "lies "can be partially arranged from a demented brain.
RHS 1939 U.S. High School Mythical Football Champions.. THANKS GANG!!
