I wanted to share a story about my best friend in high school.
Actually it goes back to intermediate school (Stevenson).
It started like a lot most of my friendships.
With a fist fight in the bathroom.
Fortunately we didn't do to much damage to each other.
We became good friends, all through high school we played football, track and field, had our first beer as ninth graders, went to every concert from Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, you name the group and we probably saw them, and in general enjoyed the 60's and 70's.
I went to college in Oregon, got married, got a job.
And though we were still friends, we were no longer best friends.
I've recently learned that my BEST friend in high school has stage four cancer, with no possibility of recovery.
He is constantly in pain and his body has deteriorated, but his mind has never cheated him.
My BEST friend has decided to participate in the Death with Dignity program.
He has taken the steps to take back control of his life and not let the cancer have the last say.
I will miss my friend a lot, but will be happy to know he truly did it his way and is no longer in pain.
I choose not to mention my friends name.
If you knew me, you knew him.
