| Favorite School Memory | I really enjoyed HS. I liked all of my teachers and especially Miss Lucy Coles who taught literature. She always encouraged me to actually write the novel I put so much thought into. I started it but never finished it. | About Me | My goal in HS was to be the best secretary any boss could have. I wanted to work for Prudential Life Insurance in Jacksonville. I was proud of the fact that I was a fast and accurate typist, could write and transcribe shorthand (which I still use), and was proficient in office practices. I was secretary to the branch manager of Retail Credit Company in WPB for five years before I moved to Daytona Beach where I worked in purchasing and subcontracting at GE. We bought all of the hardware and software for the Apollo Space program's worldwide tracking equipment. I went to beauty school at night to get a cosmetologist license while I lived and worked in Daytona Beach so I would have a backup job if I ever got laid off from GE. I had a home and car to pay for so I wanted to make sure I could make my payments. I was there for five years before I met and married my husband. Tom was attending Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach. He entered the Air Force in January 1970 after graduating so we were married in San Antonio, TX in April. That resulted in our living at Columbus AFB, MS for his pilot training, stationed at Lowery AFB, Denver, CO, and at Grand Forks AFB, ND before we moved to St. Cloud, MN where Tom had been born and raised. I've been a Minnesotan longer than I was a Floridian! I still miss Florida. I worked in sales and marketing for Stearns Manufacturing in St. Cloud for five years before I started my own floral design and interior decorating business. We moved to Alexandria in May 1984 when we purchased a supper club. That kept me away from our young son and daughter so I gave that up after four years. I wanted to be the one to raise our children and not a day care provider. My family is my priority now.
