| About Me | I left Reynoldsburg the day after graduation for an internship with The Christian Science Monitor. From Boston, I went to Illinois where I studied Political Science at Principia College. During my undergraduate days, I had internships with Senator Charles Percy, the President's Council on Environmental Quality, and The Monitor (a second time). I also participated in a quarter abroad in London and visited Mexico. Following Principia, I spent a year as a graduate fellow at the Illinois State Legislature, affiliated with Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois). In 1975, I joined the U.S. State Department and went on to serve in embassies around the world, including the Congo, Egypt, Qatar, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Mexico (twice), India, Peru, Uruguay, and Honduras. I retired last November after 34 years and 7 months in the State Dept., having reached the rank of Minister Counselor. However, State rehired me almost immediately to monitor the Spanish Presidency of the European Union. I am currently in Madrid along with my wife, who is a State Department employee. In June, I will sort of retire once again and spend time at our home on Clearwater Beach, Florida. However, I'll be back in Madrid in August and may do some teaching at one of the universities in Spain or take on another State Dept assignment in January, somewhere in Europe, but based in Spain. My career has been great - I've had the opportunity to meet several of our presidents and secretaries of state and various other interesting folks. We have a son in Florida and we've helped raise two young ladies - a Peruvian and a Mexican. From time to time, I've made it back to Central Ohio to see my niece and nephews who still live in the Columbus area.
