Brenda was born in Albuquerque, NM, the daughter of Anna May and James Kessler of Ravenswood. She was a 1970 graduate of Ravenswood High School and later went to college to obtain her BS in Nursing. She worked for the Kanawha County Board of Education as a school nurse.
