About	Karen was my younger sister. She graduated in 1973 from RJR. She joined me at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville for her freshman year. Karen then transfered to East Carolina University where she earned her degree in Occupational Therapy. She met James P. Bateman at ECU and they married in 1978.Karen was a remarkable person with a joyful and giving spirit. Karen was a gifted therapist ,patient and caring with her clients. She and Jim lived in Clemmons, N.C. They had only 13 months together when she was killed in a collision with a drunk driver on February14, 1980. As her older sister and an RJR alumnae, I often wonder about her friends and classmates. Karen was one of those extraordinary people indicative of the outstanding foundation provided to all students at RJR.As a fellow alumnae , I'm honored to count her among us. As her sister ,I am blessed to have had her as a part of my life.I will hold her always in my heart and I miss her every day.
