An Athlete’s Story
Jack Alan Bolenbaugh a high school athlete who graduated from Parkway HS class of 62 performed at a level achieved by few athletes. A four year letter winner in every sport offered until 1962 Jack was a competitor and effective player in Baseball, Basketball and Football earning 12 varsity letters. I was asked why didn’t Jack go to college? Answer was quick and simple, he went to work like so many of us, not out of want to but from have to. For many young people today the late 50’s and early 60’s were hard times financially. Some had parents who were financially fit others had the GI Bill. Athletic scholarships we only given by larger colleges and universities, and getting a government loan for college was unheard of in that day and time. So Jack went to work, got married and raised a family. But it should not diminish what he accomplished on the diamond, court and field of play. Outstanding athlete, good student, he achieved what very few athletes, if any has at Parkway HS.
