Norm Sorenson, age 76, of Germantown, passed away on April 11. He was born on February 21, 1949 to Bernard and Mary Ellen Sorenson and grew up in Brooklyn, Wisconsin graduating from Oregon High School in 1967. His education continued at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he received his B.S. in Police Science.
Norm is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tina (née Burkart), son Bradley (Patricia), daughter Jennifer (Jason Wypych), 4 granddaughters, and 1 grandson. He died on April 11, 2025 during a medical procedure.
He began his career in law enforcement in Plymouth, Wisconsin, progressing from Patrol Officer to Sergeant to Chief of Police. He later worked for 15 years at the Public Defender’s Office in Milwaukee, until his retirement in 2011.
Among his many passions were photography, oil painting, and traveling domestically and abroad. Norm and Tina visited many National Parks and toured over 20 countries. Norm was a valued docent volunteer at the Milwaukee County Zoo for 13 years, accumulating over 7,500 hours. His outgoing nature and knowledge endeared him to visitors and students alike. He also gave demonstrations at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center. His greatest passion was spending time with family, especially his children and grandchildren, and he was so proud of their many accomplishments.
