About MANSFIELD: “Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.” Katie Volz was in the beauty business. She saw beauty in the heart of others and helped them shine bright on the outside too. But most importantly, Katie herself was beautiful from the inside out.

Katelyn Amanda Volz, age 16, unexpectedly passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2015 from injuries sustained during a tragic auto accident.

She was born July 14, 1999 to parents Loren Volz and Amanda Hartzler in Mansfield. Katie attended Ontario High School where she played clarinet in the band and was studying Cosmetology at Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby. She had recently started a part-time job at Arby’s in Ontario and loved driving her new car.

Katelyn enjoyed listening to music and hanging out with her friends, especially her best friend Makenzi. She was a wonderful aunt and had lots of fun with her nephews Adam & Ian. Her favorite superhero was Batman and she collected all sorts of items inscribed with the Bat Signal. She was on track to become a skilled makeup artist and possessed a natural talent for it—her bedroom was absolutely covered in makeup!

Her family and friends will remember Katelyn as a bubbly girl with the uncanny ability to turn anyone’s grumpy face into a smile. She was soft-spoken and had a gentle spirit. Although those closest to her knew she had an ornery streak, everyone agreed she was an awesome kid who was loved by teachers and fellow students alike.

She is survived by her father Loren Volz of Mansfield; her mother Amanda Hartzler; her best friend Makenzi Cline; a special cousin and friend Annalysa Kilgore; six siblings: Christine & Tim Rodenberger, Barb Svede, Peggy Smith-Volz, Bill & Elaine Volz, Cathy & Gary Goetz, and Brittany & Josh Hylton; thirteen nieces & nephews: Christi, Alisha, Angie, Cassie, Loren, Nick, Nathan, Shannon, Justin, Corey, Seth, Adam and Ian; her maternal grandmother Mary Kay Leedy; along with numerous aunts & uncles, extended family, and friends.

Katie was preceded in death by her maternal grandfathers David B. Hartzler and James B. Leedy, and her paternal grandparents William & Mary Volz.

The family will receive friends 2-7 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Snyder Funeral Home (2553 Lexington Avenue, Mansfield OH 44904) where her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday. Pastor Caleb Henry will officiate and burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

Contributions in her memory to benefit her funeral expenses may be brought or sent to the funeral home: P.O. Box 3085, Mansfield, Ohio 44904 (please make checks payable to Snyder Funeral Homes).
