About Clifton Eugene French, age 68, of Mansfield passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2025 in his home, surrounded by his loving family, following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 24, 1956 in Mansfield to the late Clifford and Bertha (Salyers) French and graduated from Ontario High School in 1977. On June 16, 1977 he married Brenda West, his sister’s best friend, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage and raised three children.
For many years, Clifton worked in the country club and restaurant scene doing all tasks from maintenance, grounds keeping and even occasionally the dishes in the kitchen. He was always busy providing a comfortable life for his family. Clifton and his family lived in Florida for a few years and returned to Mansfield in 1999. He enjoyed rabbit hunting, fishing, tending to his garden, and was particularly proud of his tomatoes and peppers. He loved his grandchildren fiercely and treasured time with them foraging for blackberries, and later in life passed the time doing classic model cars. Though Clifton could be thought of as quiet, he was a constant in the background and took joy in telling repetitive stories and joining in with his contagious laughter. He will be remembered as an accepting, welcoming soul who could always be counted upon no matter the situation.
He is survived by his loving wife Brenda French, children Clifford French, Christopher (Jane Wetherholt) French, and Chelsea French (Chris Hummel); grandchildren Carolyn Reinert, Keaton Hamm, Cayden French, Caleb French, Cailynn Hummel, Belle Hummel and Aerilyn Hummel; a great grandchild Noctis Smith; siblings Priscilla Brown, Debbie Crownover, Charlotte Davidson, Stanley French, Tina Clark and Timmy French, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Margie Phillips.
