About | Gary W. Sargent, 73, of Ashland, Ohio, peacefully passed away on November 1, 2024, at OhioHealth Mansfield, after a courageous battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of the Ashland and Mansfield areas, Gary touched the lives of many throughout his journey. Born on March 5, 1951, in South Charleston, West Virginia, Gary was the beloved son of Kenneth and Mildred (Richards) Sargent. He was one of five siblings and graduated from Ontario High School in 1969. On February 14, 2014, he married his devoted partner, Barbara Pemberton, who sadly preceded him in death on December 25, 2023. Gary dedicated many years of his career to the Richland Correctional Institution, but he also cherished his time at Moore’s Lumber, where he worked alongside his brother Jeff as well as many friends. This experience brought him immense joy and camaraderie. An outdoor enthusiast at heart, Gary loved boating, fishing, and camping. He was an ardent fan of Cleveland sports, particularly the Indians and Browns. His spirit of patriotism shone brightly as a proud member of AMVETS. Living lakeside at Charles Mill brought him serenity, where he and Barbara enjoyed birdwatching and sharing cocktails on their boat, creating cherished memories together. Gary leaves behind his loving children, Tracey (Joe) Zara and Kyle (Brittany) Sargent; his adored grandchildren, Sophie, Nick, Asher, and Bayer; and his brothers, Doug (Gia) Sargent and Jeff (Gabby) Sargent. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Steve Pemberton; long-time friend Brad Shealy; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents and wife, Gary was preceded in death by his brothers, Tom and Darryl Sargent. In accordance with Gary’s wishes, no services will be held. |
