James was born on July 3, 1951 in Lima, Ohio. He was the son of Jack and Patsy (Hughes) Bayes. James was a graduate of Ontario High School, and attended the Ohio State University-Mansfield branch. He retired as a machine repairman from General Motors after 38 years of dedicated services. He married his high school sweetheart, Delores, on February 27, 1971. They would have shared 53 years of marriage together. A loyal family man, there were many things that James cherished dearly; attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, family vacations, and having the family all together for holidays. He appreciated nature and found enjoyment in hunting, fishing, and gardening. A sports lover who had some experience as a coach, enjoyed bowling, golfing, and the adventure of fantasy league sports. James could be found cheering for the Kentucky Wildcats when he wasn’t cheering for one of his grandchildren.

He leaves behind to relish so many memories his wife, Delores (Sprunger) Bayes; his children, Brian (Kristina) Bayes, Steven (Amanda) Bayes, and Mark Bayes; his grandchildren, Alex Bayes, Matt Bayes, Cameron Yoder, and Derrick Bayes; his father, Jack Bayes; and his siblings, Terri (Rod) Miller and Dave (Erica) Bayes; numerous nieces, nephews, cherished family and friends; and in-laws, Louise (Robert) Bobst and Janice Stetler. He was preceded in death by his mother; and grandparents, Pete (Lula) Bayes and Harry (Dorothy) Hughes.
