About Stephen Eugene Leedy, age 72, passed away Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital following a brief battle with cancer.

Steve was born in Mansfield, Ohio on July 12, 1949, the son of Leonard Eugene “Gene” Leedy & Geraldine Idella “Gerri” (Clever) Leedy. At a young age Steve learned the value of a good work ethic.
He was a 1967 graduate of Clear Fork High School where he played on the varsity football team as a junior and senior. Those 1965 and 1967 teams would later be inducted into the Clear Fork High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Steve continued his education at Ashland College. In 1971 he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Chemistry. In 1983 he earned a Master’s Degree in Secondary Administration. For 35 years, Steve taught science for Ontario Schools; 10 years in the junior high and 25 years at the high school level. Steve was Ontario’s boys varsity golf coach for 21 years and in 2000 was inducted into the Ohio High School Golf Coaches Hall of Fame.

Steve first met Laurie Shasky on a blind date. The two were married on August 2, 1980. A dedicated husband and father, Steve always supported his children. He was their biggest fan.

Steve enjoyed tending to his garden, fishing anywhere he could put a pole in water, and enjoyed hunting deer and squirrel.

A sports enthusiast, autumn weekends began with Clear Fork high school football, transitioned to Ohio State football and ended with the Sunday afternoons cheering for the Browns. Steve loved to golf especially on Wednesday mornings with his close friends.

He stayed connected with friends and was intentional in attending the monthly coach’s breakfast meetings and lunches with his Clear Fork High School classmates. For 40 years Steve and Laurie played in the “Card Club”. He also loved the monthly meetings with special friends the Smith’s, Sparks, and McClelland’s.

A lifetime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Steve served in numerous capacities including usher, reader, greeter, council/committee member, attended bible study and sang for the choir and Christmas cantata.

He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Laurie Leedy of Bellville; daughter Lane Nicole Leedy of Findlay, daughter Allyson (Ben) Miller of Bellville and their son Landon James Miller, son Ryan Stephen (Emily) Leedy of Bellville and their son Cooper Ryan Leedy
