About | ONTARIO: Mark Shaum, 61, of Ontario, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018 due to complications in his battle with lung cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends at his home. A lifelong resident of Ontario, Mark was born on May 22, 1957 to Emma and James H. Shaum. He graduated in 1975 from Ontario High School, where he played in the band and made lifelong friends who stayed by his side until his passing. He married Antoinette “Toni” Elias in 1986, and was graced with two sons, Collin and Benjamin, who both reside in Ontario. Mark retired after 29 years of service at Midway Inc. and most recently was the owner of Franklin Generator Service. He enjoyed woodworking, home improvement, restoring his 1969 Chevy C10, auto racing and being annoyed by incessant questions from his wife and children. Mark was the president of the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Club and enjoyed autocross in his 1986 Toyota MR2. Mark’s refuge in life was his garage, and he spent hours working on various projects. His sons, nieces and nephews were his pride and joy, and provided him with many hours of jokes, hilarious conversations and laughter. His family is further extended by several of his “adopted kids” for whom he was both a role model and a constant sounding board. Mark is survived by his wife Antoinette “Toni” Shaum, with whom he spent 32 years traveling and enjoying life. He is also survived by his two sons, Collin (Rebecca) Shaum and Benjamin Shaum and his fiancée Stacy Shumate; two brothers, Jim (Melinda) Shaum and Jerry (Laura) Shaum, two brothers-in-law Nick Elias and Tom (Paula) Elias; many nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces and grand-nephews, who’s company he greatly enjoyed. In addition, he is survived by his faithful rotund Labrador, Shadow. Mark was preceded in death by his father James Shaum. His mother Emma Shaum passed away just 10 hours after Mark. Mark’s friends and family wish to thank the excellent staff at the James Cancer Center at the Ohio State University for their unmatched care and support. |
