Trained as jet engine mechanic and crew chief on F-4 Phantom II fighter aircraft. Served in the first Marine Corps Phantom II squadron, VMFA-314 Blackknights, at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, Santa Ana, Calif. Missed going to Viet Nam by 2 weeks. Because of the schools and training I had on the F-4 they reassigned me to stay at El Toro to help form and train new Marines on the Phantom. Served from 1961 to 1965.
