| Events | About Eastern Washington University Robert Thompson Obituary Anacortes, WA - Robert Warren Thompson, known fondly as Bob, passed away on January 26, 2025, at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Arizona, after a brief illness from pneumonia and the flu. He was 80 years old. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carmen Bliss. Bob was born on June 28, 1944, in Grandview, Manitoba, Canada to Charles and Mary Thompson. He spent his early years in Okanogan, Washington, before becoming a U.S. citizen in 1965. He went on to graduate from Eastern Washington University in 1967, where he met his beloved wife, Diane. Their marriage of 58 years was a beautiful partnership that brought two wonderful children Brian and Suzanne, into the world. Family was of utmost importance to Bob, and his love for them was reflected in his unwavering work ethic and dedication to providing for their needs. Over the years, Bob cherished family trips, gathering with extended family, time with dear friends, and boating adventures. The milestones of his children's lives, from high school and college graduation to their marriages, were sources of immense pride. Bob's joy expanded further with the birth of his grandson, Josh, in 2000. Bob was especially proud of Josh's graduation from Loyola Marymount University in 2023. Bob was fortunate to have a career in the Dental Industry as a Manufacturer Representative for 42 years. He worked with many dedicated people, many of whom became close friends. Suzanne and her Dad enjoyed working together in the dental field. It was witnessed that Bob had two personalities, one being a quiet man and the other the man who had a quick wit and comedic style. These personalities were present in family and business and are fondly remembered. Bob's commitment to service was evident in his involvement with the Anacortes Rotary Club. He was dedicated to the fight against Polio, contributing to fundraising efforts, October Auction, and servicing as president of the club from 2012-2013. Bob had many interests that kept him busy and fulfilled. His love for woodworking, welding, planning and building projects filled his days. He had a passion for cars, motorcycles, and most notably, boating, which he enjoyed for over 50 years. He was a proud member of the Fidalgo Yacht Club for many years. Bob is survived by is beloved wife, Diane; his children, Brian (Susan and grandson Josh) and Suzanne; and family and countless friends who were touched my his warmth, humor and generosity. A celebration of Bob's life will be held in Anacortes on September 13, 2025. Information will be sent out re: time and location. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Anacortes Rotary, the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, or the Fidalgo Yacht Club in Anacortes in Bob's memory. Bob will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace. |
