Events	July 3, 1944 – December 28, 2024 Paul Richard Waterstrat Paul Waterstrat, 80, a respected scientist, educator, and adventurer, passed away Dec. 28, 2024. A graduate of Okanogan High School (1962), Paul earned degrees in Invertebrate Zoology (Univer-sity of Washington), Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (WSU) where he played rugby, Masters in Fish-eries (UW), and a Ph.D, in Fish Immunology (Mississippi State) where he later taught. Paul was a respected scientist and did advanced research in Mussels, Oysters, Catfish, Lobster, and Salmon. In 2003 he became the Director of Public Health for Okanogan County from which he retired six years later. Paul’s adventurous outdoor spirit shone through his love of cycling, sailing, motorcycling, and ex-ploring the wilderness. A devoted husband, father, and Scout leader. He spent summers during college building trails in the Pasayten Wilderness and cherished his travels in the Yukon. Paul is survived by his wife Jane; sons, Teal, Loudon Ford, and Will; seven grandchildren; and his brother, Ford. He will be remembered for his intellect, kindness, love of nature, and for his eccentric pursuits that made him a unique person in every place he lived over the years.
