Don was Senior and Junior and high Student body president, went to boys state, played taps for the County Military burials and memorial and Veterans Day, he was first chair in the all County Band, played with the Wenatchee drum and bugle Corp band, was the number one high School guidance council for the United States, at another School, the Number one Indian Guidance councilor, The University of Seattle Voted him the Number one high School Councilor for the high schools for HighShool Councilors in the State of Washington, Later he was voted the number one Guidance Council in the 11 western States. He played Football, was a wrestler in College, and lifted a 328-pound guy over his head in a skit, He was a Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Son of Frances and Don DeVon, He went to Whitworth to get credited as a Councilor, and the instructor said your name is Don DeVon, are you any relation to Don DeVon from Walla Walla, he said, I am Don DeVon from Walla Walla why? The instructor said I hope you get something out of this class, everything we do here is based on what you turned into the State to be a councilor when you were working in the Penitentiary as a Councilor, Teacher, and Vice Principal. He coached Baseball, Hockey, and Football he sent many kids out to college on scholarships, and some to the pros, and one got in the Olympics.
When we were in high school his counselor said don't go to college, you will never make it, and here he was the number one guidance counselor in the United States. When we were kids we grew up around Whites, Indians, Coloreds, Mexicans, WW I & WW ll, and Korean war vets, so we lived around everyone on the Orchard, even guys who had been in prison for killing a person in a fight.
He was way more qualified than his counselor who advised him in my opinion.
