David Capstick
Class of 1962
Army, 2 Years
Served 14 1/2 months on the DMZ in Korea. Sent to Korean Language School in order to work with 2,200 Korean Civilians employed by the US Govt. in the 2nd Infantry Division. Received Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Metal, Overseas Metal, Expert with Rifle and 45 cal Handgun. Had military drivers license for everything from 1/4 ton jeep to 52 ton M-60 tank. Promoted to Sgt in 15 months in service.

Boot camp in San Diego, school at Treasure Island (San Francisco) and San Diego. Stationed aboard USS Saginaw LST-1188 at Little Creek, VA. Two cruises to the Mediterranean and several to the Caribbean.

Served aboard the USS Saginaw LST-1188 as a Hull Maint. Tech. (welder, pipe fitter, firefighter). Cruised to the Mediterranean Sea twice and to the Caribbean islands many times. An amazing time for a young man from the Great Plains.

Tim left Norton to be stationed in Oceanside, California to join the Marine Crps in 1997. He served until 2002. He then moved back to Norton and joined the Army National Guard where he is still active. He has served one term in Iraq from November 2005 to November 2006.

Tom Hawks

National Guard, 36 Years
Joined the Kansas Army National Guard in Norton January 1980 and retired Jan 2016 with 36 years of service. I spent the last 15 years on my career in Salina, KS at the Kansas Training Center and Kansas Military Academy, serving in several key leadership positions to include Non Commissioned Officer Instructor, Range Control Officer and Facility Manager. I retired as an E-8 Master Sergeant. I did not serve overseas but prepared soldiers in the Kansas Army National Guard in Salina that were activated to serve overseas.
