Over 217 people that lived in Memphis TN were killed or listed as MIA. They were our family members, neighbors, friends, loved ones and Northside alumni. This space on our website is dedicated to our heroes.

In 1954 (the year most of the Class of 1972 was born) President Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us to stay out of Vietnam but Congress overruled him. As a former military man, it appears he knew what congress did not. We did not achieve our objective and many lives were lost. The specific names and biographies are listed on "The Wall" website. Aaron Whaley, Sr., 62, died December 10, Big A, Unc, and Granddaddy, as he was affectionately called, was born, December 6, 1954, to Mr. Joe Willie Whaley and Mrs. Inez Maggit Whaley, in Memphis, Tennessee.

He dedicated his life to Christ at an early, and continued his walk in Christ throughout his life by attending Grace Baptist Church. He attended Northside High School, in Memphis, Tennessee. Although he was a "Jack of all trades", he worked for Schering Plough and retired after 25 plus years.

"Big A" was a standout basketball player, starring in high school and playing in leagues. He had a mean left hook that helped him lead his teams to victories.

"Unc", short for uncle, was a Natural comedian. He could keep you laughing for hours. He was the life of the party, and, he was a master griller.

"Granddaddy" was simply loved by all. He could and would help Anyone...

He was united in holy matrimony to Mrs. Gwendolyn Seay Whaley on July 24, 1976. To this union two children were born, Aaron Whaley Jr. and Adrienne L. Whaley.

Left to treasure endless memories are: his wife of 40 years, Gwendolyn Seay Whaley; a son, Aaron Whaley Jr.; a daughter, Adrienne L. Whaley; a God-daughter, Maresha L. Boone; 9 grandchildren; 2 great grandsons; his father, Joe Willie Whaley; a brother, Larry J. Whaley Sr. (Helen), 2 sisters, Sharon Williams (Chicago, IL), and Joy Whaley (Memphis, TN); a niece, 2 nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mrs. Inez Whaley.

Visitation was from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2016 and the service was at 12:00 noon on Monday, December 19, 2016 all at Serenity Funeral Home. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.

ALBERT WOODROW BATEMAN, SR., 57, a 1972 graduate of Northside High School and retired conductor/switchman for Illinois Central Railroad, died November 13, 2011. Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, November 19 at Messiah Fellowship COGIC, 4444 Old Allen Road. He leaves his wife, Juanita Bateman; daughter, Anita Bateman; son, Albert Bateman, Jr.; three sisters, Deloris Yates, Barbara Gilkey and Mary Alice Parks; three brothers, Emanuel Bateman II, James Bateman and Michael Bateman; his father, Emanuel Bateman, Sr., and four grandchildren.

Unfortunately, we have lost another member of our Northside High School Family.

Alvin, the brother of James Edward Wilson (Manassas HS) and Norma Jean Horton Humphreys (Northside High School Class of 1972) has passed. His niece Tasha Humphreys Coburn has stated that he fought a good fight and now there is no more suffering.. He will be missed. This picture is from 2018. He still looked the same. Andre V. Pernell Sr was born April 10, 1957 pass on January 21, 2016. He was a member of the U.S Army reserve for 30 years. He leaves his loving Mother, Ms. Eddie Pernell, son, Andre Pernell Jr (Las Vegas) , brother, Lawrence Pernell Jr (Memphis, TN), Sisters, Audrey Pernell (Memphis, TN) and Sandra Douglass (Wis) and Candy Pernell (Minn). Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 12-Noon til 6 p.m. at Superior Funeral Home 1129 N Hollywood Memphis, TN.

Deacon Arlanders Coburn, Jr., son of the late Elder Arlanders and Mrs. Genella Brooks Coburn, was born May 16, 1954 in Memphis, TN. On January 17, 2012, 9:25 a.m. at Methodist University Hospital, he wrote the final chapter of his life, softly closed the book, and went to his eternal home.

He attended public schools in Memphis, TN and graduated from Northside High School in 1972.

Arlanders, Jr. accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He was a loyal and faithful member of Gethsemane Garden Institutional Church of God in Christ. He served as a member of the Deacon's Board faithfully until his health began to fail. He loved his pastor, first lady, members of Gethsemane Garden, and all of the Lord's people.

He was united in holy matrimony to Sharon R. Edwards on February 24, 1974. From his union, three sons were born. He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. This was a marriage ordained by God. He would often say that God gave Sharon to him.

Arlanders Jr. was employed by Memphis Light Gas and Water and retired after 25 years of service. He was a 36-year member and Past Master of Adamant Lodge #204, Past Patron of Adamant Chapter #7 Order of Eastern Star, Past High Priest of Topstone Chapter #43 Holy Royal Arch Masons, Past Sentinel of Juliett Allison Grand Chapter Holy Royal Arch Mason, Past Recorder for Nora Boyd Commander #23 Knight Templar, Past Grand Commander of Lilly of the Valley #38 Council of Kadosh, a member of King Frederick Consistory #38, all of which are State of Tennessee, Prince Hall Affiliated. He was a Grand Inspector General of the United Supreme Council of the 33rd and Last Degree of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliation, for the Southern Jurisdiction of the United States of America.

He was a very lively person with an infectious sense of humor. He was always very cheerful and upbeat, even when he was not feeling well.

She was the beloved wife of Mr Solomon Wilson and the loving mother of Solomon Jr, Darrell, Cory and Barry James (BJ). Always a beautiful smile for everyone. Her family, friends and classmates will always love her and miss her.
