Graduation Year Class of 1971
Date of Passing Oct 19, 2021
About I sincerely regret to inform you that our much loved alumni Deborah Ann Lanois, Northside High School Class of 1971, has moved and changed her address to Heaven.

On Tuesday, October 19, 2021, this loving mother of one son, grandmother, and sister passed away at the age of 68.
Deborah was born on July 18, 1953, to Louis and Johnie Lanois at John Gaston Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. She lived in the Hyde Park community. At some point, Deborah got the nickname of Dede that she never outgrew. She attended and graduated as the salutatorian of Northside High School class of 1971. She was a lifelong member of Pentecostal Evangelical Church of God in Christ. After graduating high school and a winding road, Deborah graduated from The University of Memphis in 2003 with her bachelor's degree and was one class away from her Master of Arts in Liberal Studies with a concentration in community development. She worked in human resources for the Department of Children Services within the State of Tennessee and retired in 2019.
Deborah had many passions in life but cooking was at the top of the list. She was a true blue Memphian because she formed a team to compete in the BBQ contest during Memphis in May and even won an honorable mention. She started a homebased catering service—D's Delectable where she catered anything from birthday parties, funerals, office events, to picnics. She got her cooking chops from being the designated holiday chef for the family and cooked for every holiday even the less celebrated ones. Another major passion was University of Memphis Basketball. During March Madness, she often wore her Tigers gear and took off to watch the Tigers play and cheerlead from home with her yelling, "Here We Go Tigers, Here We Go," while banging on something twice. She had a fondness for traveling but it was not about the destination but who she traveled with and the moments of pure joy and laughter that made the trip meaningful and memorable.
Deborah was proceeded in death by her father Louis Jr., her mother, Johnie Elcia, her sister, Mary Helen, and her niece, Sheila. She is survived by her son, Derrick PhD, grandson Derrick II, granddaughter Isis, great granddaughter Ava, sisters—Ida (Mack) and Johnie, nieces—Barbara and Eboni, nephews—Samuel and Anthony (Janica), and several cousins and extended family.
The Wake was held on Sunday, October 31st, 2021 from 4 PM - 6 PM at Millington Funeral Home with masks being required and social distancing inside the chapel.
The funeral services were held on Monday, November 1st, 2021 with viewing and slideshow beginning at 10 AM and funeral service beginning at 11 AM at Gethsemane Garden COGIC, 1740 Vollintine Ave, Memphis, TN 38107.
