Graduation Year Class of 1968
Date of Passing (unknown)
About These are the words of his classmate, Cliff Crump about their experience marching for justice:

I remember the walkout like it happened yesterday. I remember the police dogs, being physically abused by police, put in a paddy wagon and spending the night in the Memphis jail along with William Person (Percy) my classmate (RIP). Northside students went to the rally at Clayborn Temple where the 2 of us along with several students from other schools organized to go downtown and participate in the protest. I believe the date was April 3, 1968 or a date very close to the assignation of Dr. King.. The attached articles are a little blurry but my name and William Person’s name is near the bottom of the article captioned “Marching Arrest Second For Youth.” Mr, Michael, Northside Principal at the time tried to suspend us but was unable to because we were bailed out of jail by the NAACP, the AFLCIO. and represented by Attorney Marvin Ballin. The charges against us were fabricated by the police to get us off the street and prevent us from protesting. One of the proudest days in my life. Participating in the movement changed me forever.

Percy’s memory lives on in those that are still in the fight for equality and justice for African Americans during the civil rights movement and up until today still fighting. May his memory last forever.
