About | Scott Daniel Obituary Chaplain Major Scott Alan Daniel, 53, passed away at his home in Williamsburg, VA on Monday, November 16, 2015. He was born on November 18, 1961 in Columbus, Ohio to the late Jerry and Juanita (Nance) Daniel of Ironton, Ohio. Scott graduated from Northridge High School in 1980 and from Mount Vernon Nazarene College in 1986. He married his college sweetheart, Cynthia (Depugh) Daniel, in 1987 before joining the US Army Artillery Corps in 1988. He served four years as an artillery fire direction specialist in Hanau, Germany and Fort Riley, KS. As part of the 1st Infantry Division, he fought in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. In 1992 he joined the Ohio National Guard and started his journey to become an Army Chaplain. While serving as an ordained minister for the Church of the Nazarene, he earned a Master's degree from Ashland Theological Seminary and was commissioned into the US Army Chaplain Corps. CH Daniel returned to active duty ministry in 2000 at Fort Huachuca, AZ, and served as a battalion chaplain in numerous deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and South Korea. In 2010 he earned a Master's degree in counseling from Columbus State University and became the Family Life Chaplain at Fort Eustis, VA. Most recently he was the chaplain for the 128th Aviation Brigade. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sons, Connor (Kayla) and Taylor; daughter, Aidan; grandson, Marshall; brother, Brian (Vesta) Daniel and in-laws, Neil and Harriett Depugh. Visitation will be held at the Church of the Nazarene, 226 N. Market Street in Mount Sterling, Ohio on Monday, November 23 from 5 to 8 PM and on Tuesday, November 24 from 10 to 11 AM. A celebration of life service will begin at 11 AM followed by a graveside service at Range Township Cemetery in Sedalia, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be given to the Disabled American Veterans at dav.org. Arrangements are under the direction of the Summers Funeral Home.
