Served aboard 2 nuclear Fast Attack Submarines stationed in Groton, CT. Qualified in submarines in 1971 and received the Dolphins insignia. Crossed the Artic Circle submerged and received the Expedition Metal. Longest period submerged on one deployment was 68 days. Participated in war games where torpedoes were launched. Submarine and crew were inducted into the Submarine Hall of Fame. As a teenager straight out of HS this was the experience of a lifetime!

Served aboard 2 nuclear Fast Attack Submarines stationed in Groton, CT. Qualified in submarines in 1971 and received the Dolphins insignia. Crossed the Artic Circle submerged and received the Expedition Metal. Longest period submerged on one deployment was 68 days. Participated in war games where torpedoes were launched. Submarine and crew were inducted into the Submarine Hall of Fame. As a teenager straight out of HS this was the experience of a lifetime!

This was a time in history that America youth were opposed to the war and rightfully so. The young men were drafted out of high school, I was 18 and Vietnam was the last place I wanted to be. The Navy was a good experience and it prepped me for College which I attended 4 years later at Ohio State University, the GI bill paid the way. I have no regrets and it help me grow up.
