He was a carpenter, and member of Fraternal Order of Eagles #109. Survived by his companion, Carol J. Whitten; daughters, Tera J. Kennedy-Bernardino and Tena Emery, both of Des Moines; son, Michael P. Kennedy of Madrid, IA; and six grandchildren; his mother, Joan Kennedy; brothers, Michael and Patrick; sister, Georgia Kennedy; step-mother, Edith Kennedy; and several cousins.
