About Myron Michael "Mickey" Dawes, 50, CEO of Wildcatter Records, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2007, in Weatherford.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church, Graham.

Memorials: Mickey Dawes Western Heritage Museum, Box 659, Graham, Texas 76450.

Mickey was born in Newburgh, N.Y., to Emma Rose Dillon Dawes and the late Myron L. Dawes. At an early age, Mickey loved watching western movies and western television shows such as "Bonanza." He grew up wanting to be either a policeman or a cowboy. His background was in law enforcement: He was a sheriff, first in upstate New York and then in Pinellas County, Fla. In 1995 he left his career to follow his heart into western entertainment. Master of ceremonies, cowboy humorist, drummer and percussionist are words used to describe Mickey. His love for the West allowed him to compose cowboy poetry.

Gene Autry proclaimed after hearing Dawes' album, "Mickey Dawes hits the bull's-eye with his collection of cowboy poetry, It's a mixture of happy memories and new expressions all wrapped up in good fun." Mickey's voice allowed him the opportunity to host western movie festivals, cowboy poetry gatherings, awards shows and the Round Up, the kickoff to the Golden Boot Awards in Studio City, Calif.

Dawes was past president of the Country Music Association (2001-2003), member of the Academy of Country Music, Western Music Association and Country Music Association.

He moved to Graham in 2003 to become CEO of Wildcatter Records. Mickey married Mary L. Hiatt on Nov. 11, 2006, at his Lucky 13 Ranch near Graham. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Graham.
