| About | Clyde H. "Herb" Spangler, Jr. entered into Heavenly rest July 21 in York. He was a son of the late Clyde H. and Evelyn R. (Kimmel) Spangler, Sr. Mr. Herb graduated from New Oxford High School and then from Shippensburg College with a BS in Education and a MS in Guidance Counseling. He taught at Dillsburg School District and then at Hanover Public School District from which he retired after 35 years of teaching. While at Hanover High School, he initiated a program for Industrial Arts, was head of the math department, and was instrumental in getting funding from businesses in the local community to furnish the first computer lab. He was also the advisor to the gun club and key club at Hanover. Mr. Spangler was an adjunct faculty member at York College for 25 years and served as past president of New Oxford School Alumni Association. He was an active member of Emmanuel U.C.C. in Abbottstown, where he served as Sunday school teacher, Sunday school superintendent, Financial Secretary, and Consistory president. Mr. Spangler was active in Boy Scouts as a young man and was a PA Hunter Safety Instructor for 38 years and a PA Bow Hunters education instructor. He was very active in the York Adams Fish and Game Club, where he was a past archery club president for two years, and was instrumental in having the indoor archery range built for the club. He was a member of Paradise Twp. Planning Commission, Abbottstown Fire Co., VFW, West Manchester Fish and Game, Abbottstown 4H Leader, New Oxford Social and Athletic Club, New Oxford Ambulance Association., East Berlin Ambulance Assoc. He is survived by his wife, Susan M. (Meckley) Spangler and one daughter, Wendy S. Rodriquez of Reading; and one sister, Jane E. Lerch of Boiling Springs. He was preceded in death by two sons, Edward F. and Samuel H. Spangler. |
