I am grateful for the opportunity to serve our country. It was an honor and privilege to follow in the footsteps and share in the heritage of those who came before, those far more courageous than I.

Steven R. Burtt
Class of 1965
Air Force, 4 Years
I served in the USAF Communications Service until Sept. 1969, including approx. 15 months in Texas, 20 months in Japan, and 1 year at Ton San Nhut AB, Rep. of Vietnam. Occasionally I ran into Jesse Offringa '65 while in RVN. I was ambivalent about my service when discharged, but I'm now very proud to have served. I've seen the etched name of our late former classmate, Larry Merschrod, at the New Jersey Vietnam Veteran's Memorial and it saddens me to think of all the people who died over there.
