Valentino "Val" Zurawlew of New Britain died Tuesday. He was 57. The cause of death was soft tissue sarcoma. He was raised in New Britain, graduated from New Britain High School, Class of 1968 and was the food manager at Lake Compounce and at Southern Connecticut State University, had an antiques business, and was the former owner of College Spa. He is survived by his wife, Valerie Zurawlew; his mother, Sophia Zurawlew; and a sister, Larise St. John. "Ou sow sow sow, ou sow sow sow, hit him in the head with a big kielbasa."

Val was a Russian-Polack, that is, he lived in the Polish part of NBski. Knew him as a kid and young man. Val was social, open, smiling, engaged. Good soul, good childhoods emories of him.
