John M. Badolato, 52, of East Berlin, husband of Marguerite ``Peggy'' (Anderson) Badolato, died Friday (March 7, 2003) at his home. A New Britain native and long time resident, he lived in East Berlin since 1995. A graduate of New Britain High School, Class of 1968, he was a US Marine Corps veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. John was an officer with the New Britain Police Department for 20 years, retiring in 1995. He later worked at Stop & Shop in Cromwell for five years. Beisdes his wife Peggy, he leaves his parents, Dominic and Gladys Badolato of New Britain; a daughter, Kori Lavertue and her husband Tony of New Britain; a son, Ronald Nelson Jr. of East Berlin; two sisters, Donna Campbell and her husband Robert of Farmington; and Joan Hanlone of Middletown; two grandsons, Darren and Craig Royce of New Britain; and his faithful dog ``Bear''.

I went to NBHS with John. He had a larger-than-life personality. He and a bunch of buddies joined the USMC in high school. At that time, Vietnam was a fantasy. That he went, survived, and returned to "normal" life in terms of family and the NBPD is a testament to his character. Mr. Murpy, an elegant educated man, was our English teacher. Many of the NBHS teachers at that time were highly qualified. Ray
