About Me	After high school, I graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Special Education. In Charlottesville, I fell in love with the university, the profession, Virginia with its Blue Ridge Mountains, rivers and beaches, and my husband of 43 years, Fred. I taught children with moderate intellectual disabilities for 3 years and as more children with physical disabilities entered my classroom (P.L. 94.142), I knew I needed more education. Fred and I moved to Richmond, Virginia while I pursued a master’s degree in occupational therapy (OT) at Virginia Commonwealth University. After ongoing health issues, we adopted our two sons as babies. As a parent of two biracial boys, I know more about racial biases, sports, music, and community happenings than I ever thought possible. Parenting has been exhilarating, challenging, and humbling. Both boys are adults, launched, and living Richmond and Owensboro KY. One daughter-in-love, no grandchildren, just a 3 grand-doggies who play with our pup of 15 years, Carlee. Retirement: After working as an occupational therapist in pediatrics, rehab, acute care, and psychiatry, I was tapped to teach at Virginia Commonwealth University. Unbelievably, 30 years later, I retired as an Associate Professor and Assistant Department Chair in 2016. My husband Fred, retired two and a half years before me as an RN. I’ve loved my career…fun writing, learning, collaborating, and teaching. I miss the enthusiasm of students and watching light bulbs go off, but I do not miss the 60+ hours a week schedule. I feel much healthier now! In 2014, we tore down our one-bedroom get-away, fishing cabin, and built a new house on Cat Point Creek, off the Rappahannock River. We moved to Warsaw, Virginia, a small town in the Northern Neck. I appreciate the sunrises and sunsets while thoroughly mesmerized by nature as we watch the eagles fish in the water.
