About	Mel Mapel Jr. passed away on December 3rd at Good Samaritan Hospice in Heritage Valley Beaver after a long battle with Alzheimer’s and congestive heart failure. He was surrounded by his family and leaves behind a wife of 51 years Wanda (Stuart). Mel was the loving father of Mel Mapel III (Amy), Michelle deBrucky, Michael Mapel, and Linda Mapel. Ten grandchildren, his brother Robert Mapel, his sister Judie Haman, and many nieces and nephews survive him. Born on August 29, 1937 in Carmichael, Pa, Mel was the son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Crago) Mapel. He was a longtime resident of Moon Township. His parents, a sister Patricia Bragg, and a son-in-law Kevin deBrucky preceded him in death. Mel proudly and honorably served his country and was a veteran of the United States Navy. In his early years, Mel raced stock cars. He was self-employed for decades at Mapel’s Texaco until his retirement. Mel was a top regional salesman for Hertz Penske Trucking. As per Mel’s wishes, there will be no public viewing. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Arrangements by Copeland's
