About Joseph W. Keppel, Jr., a dedicated family man, wonderful husband, father and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly at Heritage Valley Sewickley on Monday, May 15, 2017 at the age of 81. Born in Coraopolis on September 1, 1935, son of the late Joseph and Agnes Labuda Keppel, Sr., he was a life-long resident of Moon Township graduating from Moon High School in 1953. After his enlistment in the US Army, Joe went on to obtain his BS in Business from St. Vincent College in 1960. Along with his father, he formed Joseph Keppel and Son Insurance Agency, still located in Moon Township and now third generation family business. Joe and his father, receiving their insurance licenses at the same time, ran their business the old-fashioned way, knowing their clients and visiting them door to door. Joe, a man of strong faith and community, was a member of St. Margaret Mary Church, President of SW Multi List and former President of the Moon Township Rotary Club. Joe enjoyed life, an avid outdoorsman, fly fisherman, bird watcher, nature lover, he also loved to travel. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a man described as “Larger than life”. Beloved husband for 57 years (known as “sweetie pie”) to Stephanie (Fronek) Keppel; fondly called “Big Daddy Joe Bob” and loving father of Elizabeth Cook (Jason), Karen Myros (Timothy), Andy Keppel (Kathy) and the late Karl J. Keppel (surviving spouse Sandy); cherished “Pop Pop” to Kaitlyn Myros, Karly Keppel-Webb (Andrew), Javan & Joseph “Joey” Cook, Abby, Max and Chloe Keppel and the late Paul Myros; brother of Carol Ann Keppel of San Diego, CA. Joe requested no visitation. Everyone is welcome to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, June 3, 2017, at St. Margaret Mary Church, 1 Parish Place, Moon Township, PA 15108 at 9:30 AM. Father Frank Kurimsky will officiate. Burial will follow, at a later date, in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Wounded Warriors Project (support.woundedwarriorproject.org/Donate) or Heritage Valley Sewickley (www.heritagevalley.org/pages/heritage-valley-sewickley-foundation.
