About Michael H. Heinlein, a great husband, father, grandfather and friend, as well as owner and operator of the Ponderosa Golf Course, age 62, of Hookstown, passed unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at his home. Born in Indiana, PA on Jan. 26, 1954, he was the son of the late Herbert H. and Thelma Rose “Mick” (Smith) Heinlein. Beloved husband and best friend of Lee Ann (Hile) Heinlein; loving father of Michael John (Amanda), Andrew (Chelsie), Matthew (Morgan) and Benjamin (Katrina Durban); he loved and pampered his grandchildren Mason, Marissa, Tyler, Cameron, Hunter with another expected soon; well-loved brother of Janet Fischer; cousin of Don and Sandy Heinlein; cherished uncle of Jennifer & Mark Walker, Ray and Kelly Fischer and their children, Madison and R.J. As a second generation family owned and operated business, The Ponderosa Golf Course was his father’s dream which became reality in 1964 and opened in 1965. Mike worked along-side his father to make a successful business that hosted many golf outings. He was a member of the Golf Course Superintendent Association of America for 40 years and also the National Golf Course Association. Always civic-minded, he joined Coraopolis Kiwanis Club in 1982, was a dedicated member, serving as Past President many times, fund raising chairman hosting the annual steak fry and the auction. He was currently a member of the Sewickley Kiwanis and the Coraopolis Lodge #674 F& AM. He enjoyed bowling and hunting, but most of all being with family, and especially doting on his grandchildren. Mike was a man with a BIG HEART. He will be greatly missed by many. Visitation Saturday and Sunday 2-4, 6-9 at Copeland’s Moon Township, 981 Brodhead Rd. where service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM. Rev. Roger Howard will officiate. Burial will follow in Clinton UP Church Cemetery. Family suggests donations, in his name in honor of his remission from cancer, to the American Cancer Society.

We always enjoyed sled riding down the hills of the Bon Aire Golf course. We were neighbors and friends that grew up together. RIP Michael.
