About Arthur H. Hughes, age 95, of Hopewell, formerly of Coraopolis, died on Saturday, March 18, 2023. Born in Shamokin, PA, the son of the late Gilbert S. and Clara Meinhardt Hughes; beloved husband of the late Elinor Fish Hughes; father of Pam (Robert) Gibson, Thomas (Kimberly) Hughes and Christine Geis; grandfather of Brian (Lauren), Brad, Brett and Scott (Kyra), Michael and Megan (Tony); great grandfather of Leah and Rocco Moreno; brother of Gerald C. (Ruth) Hughes and the late Gilbert, Otto (Dolores), Nelson (Phyllis), Melvyn (Jan), Charles, Howard (Flo), Dale (Anne) Hughes, and Marion (Bill) Kramer, Edna Perrault; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Arthur was a 1945 graduate of Moon High school, enlisted in the U S Navy for a short tour of duty and then attended the Robert Morris School of Business to start his career in accounting. He worked at Blaw-Knox Groveton Plant and transferred to the Pittsburgh office for 22 years. He then worked for Federal Government and retired in 1989 as Chief of the Internal Review Office, Defense Electronics Supply Center in Dayton, OH. Upon his retirement he tried his hand working in hardware and driving cars for Avis. He was a member of the Coraopolis United Methodist Church, the Chancel Choir, served as Chairman of the Trustees and a member of the Administrative Board and the Finance Committee and the Methodist Men. Art served on the Coraopolis Borough Council from 1968 – 1972, served as he Chairman of the Coraopolis Republican Party, was appointed to and served as Chairman of the Cornell Building Authority for five years, being active in the Valley Ambulance Authority. He was also a member of the Coraopolis Kiwanis Club and active in Little League Baseball as a manager and coach. He served his country, his community and most importantly his family. His greatest enjoyment was being with his family and vacationing at the beach. Friends received at R. D. Copeland, 867 Fifth Avenue, Coraopolis on Tuesday 5 – 8 pm where a Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday at 11 am. Interment will follow in Coraopolis Cemetery.
