Michael Cooley, Scientist. I really enjoyed the science labs at Mitchell, but had a tough time with English, so I did not immediately move on to college. Due to the war, I went into the Navy, but qualified to work on nuclear reactors. Learned a lot of electronics, physics and chemistry. At 27 years old, got out of the Navy and started college. Still had trouble with English, but receive a BA in Biochemistry and Cell Biology and a PhD in Genetics. Currently working on improvements in safety of lettuce and other salad vegetables as it relates to contamination with E. coli and other disease causing bacteria.
