| About Me | After High School, I went to Saddleback College to begin the first two years of my degree in Biology, which, in 1976, I finished at Chapman University in Orange. As I'm sure many can also attest to, my life has taken a much different path than the one I had planned on. Wasn't it John Lennon who said, "Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans?” After college, I worked a part time summer job at a nonprofit in Garden Grove. This soon turned into an eight-year, career-changing job, in the expanding field of computer technology. I soon became their Director of Computers, managing their Information Technology department until June of 1984. At that time, I was offered a job with the consulting firm I had worked with and left the nonprofit to create and manage a computer service bureau for Creative Computer Resources (CCR) in Costa Mesa. The job paid twice as much and gave me a wealth of new experience. I ended up staying with CCR for about two years, until June of 1986. Outside of computers, my life really changed, big time, during those few years. It was during this period that I met my wife, Donna. She had recently been divorced, with three children, Christa, Shannon, and Tara. Donna and I were married on March 21, 1986 in a small ceremony at Donna's home in Laguna Hills. We have been madly in love ever since, and she is truly the best thing that has ever happened in my life! I had always loved the Seattle area, ever since my family and I vacationed there in 1971. It had always been my dream to move there, and since Donna also loves cold, rainy weather and snow-covered mountains, it wasn't long before we started talking about moving up. Shortly after the wedding, in June of '86, we picked up stakes and moved to Washington state, to a small town just East of Seattle called Woodinville. Christa and Shannon came up with us while Tara, who was quadriplegic, preferred to stay in California at the group home where she lived (sadly, she passed away in 2017). We bought a small house on an acre of property in the middle of the forest, surrounded by Red Cedar and Hemlock trees. What really sold us on the property was a year-round creek which flows through the back yard. It is a Salmon spawning creek, so in the Fall we could look out from the house and watch as the bright red Sockeye Salmon would rush upstream. When I left California to move up to Washington, I hadn't yet landed a job, a gutsy move I assure you. Within three weeks, however, I had an offer and subsequent job for what was then the new company of Costco Wholesale. I was hired as a programming manager and was eventually promoted to Director in their IT department. It has been a great company to work for and has grown significantly since I started with them. They merged with Price Club a few years ago and has since become the largest Wholesale Club in the country. I retired in January of 2020 after 33+ years with the company! My wife, Donna, who also worked for Costco as the Director/Editor of Costco’s in-house newsletter, retired in 2010. The years since Donna and I were married have been an experience, having an instant family, and two stepchildren to raise, especially considering they were both just getting ready to enter into their teen years when Donna and I were married. But they have grown into such fine adults, and both Donna and I are very proud of them. Christa and Shannon are married now. Christa lives up here with her husband Greg Stamper and has given us four beautiful grandchildren. Shannon finished his Doctorate recently and lives with his wife, Kerry near Dallas, Texas, and are the proud parents of two of our other grandchildren. In 2002, we moved from Woodinville to the Auburn-Black Diamond area, where we built a home on 11 acres of forested land, high atop the Enumclaw Plateau. This allowed us to be closer to our grandchildren, but we ended up selling it in 2017, as we prepared for my retirement by downsizing to a much more manageable and less expensive home in Bonney Lake, Washington.
