Investiture Ceremony - About Dr. James D. Evans
James D. Evans, an accomplished scholar, teacher, author, academic administrator and a successful behavioral consultant, became Lindenwood University’s twenty-first president on February 9, 2007.
Dr. Evans joined Lindenwood’s faculty in 1974 as an assistant professor of psychology, and he advanced to the rank of professor of psychology by 1985. He was named dean of social sciences in 1994, dean of sciences in 1995, and dean of faculty in 1996. Dr. Evans was elevated to the post of provost in 2000.
During his presidency, Dr. Evans has led the charge to carry out Lindenwood’s mission-based vision: a focus on students, strong academic programs, cutting edge technology, increased emphasis on student development, and open and clear communication with the University’s constituencies.
Lindenwood already has accomplished the following during Dr. Evans’ term of office:
The school has hired some of the nation’s top university teachers for Lindenwood’s growing faculty. It has initiated its first doctoral program, a doctorate of education, and is considering development of additional doctoral degrees as well as pursuit of specialized accreditation in business administration.
Technological improvements are well under way, and our Board of Directors has authorized the largest high-tech investment in university history—the creation of an integrated database system that will soon allow online registration and streamline many other university operations.
Lindenwood has established a unique writing assessment program, has implemented numerous new communication channels and outlets, and is making a special effort to reach out to alumni and strengthen ties and communication with them.
The University has launched the construction of two additional residence halls and has planned several new apartment-style residences and a dedicated student center. One of the most welcome improvements will come in the area of landscaping and beautification at all of Lindenwood’s campuses.
Lindenwood has set up a comprehensive program to develop and improve ties with alumni, friends and civic leaders throughout the city and the region.
Dr. Evans received his Ph.D. in research psychology from Iowa State University in 1974; his M.S. in psychology from Iowa State University in 1969; and his B.S. in psychology from Geneva College in 1968. He and his wife, Lois, a longtime educator and a Lindenwood alumna, have been married 39 years and live in St. Charles, Missouri. Dr. and Mrs. Evans have a daughter, Laura L. Luebbert, who resides in Ferguson, Missouri.
