John was retired from his job as an assistant US attorney in Washington, DC, and lived in New Market, Virginia. At the time of his death, he was working part time for a local mediation service and as corporate counsel for several local companies. He leaves his wife Jude, two sons, Joshua and Jesse (Erin) and three grandchildren.
