Class of 1971
6-21-21
This past Tuesday, June 15, 2021 my granddaughter (a Junior in high school) and I watched her high school graduation (live-streamed of course). She was so excited; she saw classmates that she knew and was surprised that they were graduating! And besides that, she had never seen ANY graduation exercise before. I was so happy for her because she was anticipating her own graduation next year in 2022!
This scene took me back to my graduation with all of you in our graduating Class of 1971. At that time, I too, was so excited to be graduating high school! At the same time, this was one of the saddest days of my life because our teachers and administrators (and parent planning committee) did not have the wisdom or heart to plan ONE GRADUATING Celebration (dance/ party) for all the graduates! Instead, in 1971, Central High School had a celebration for the white students and another for the black students. And for this fact, I have a hard time reconciling the need to attend our 50th High School Reunion. I'm very conflicted. Some apologies are in order. If I have incorrect facts regarding our graduation events, I apologize. I'm interested in your thoughts about this concern.
Sincerely,
Ellafair
