About Me | Born and raised in a farming community in Western Kansas. Attended college at Kansas State University at Emporia, KS. Was president of local TKE fraternity chapter. After graduation worked as Chemical Processing Engineer for Sauder Tank Co., Emporia, KS. Later became engineer and pipeline superintendent for McCulloch Gas Transmission Co in Gillette Wyo. In 1967 I joined the AF and entered pilot training at Reese AFB in Lubbock, TX where I met my wife who was a Senior at Texas Tech. I left for Vietnam in 1968 where I flew AC-47 fixed wing gunships at Pleiku AB while Diane taught school in Houston, living with her folks and new son, Jason. After a year in VietNam, we moved to England AFB, LA where I was an instuctor pilot and Diane did some substitute teaching and mostly took care of Jason and a second son, Douglas. We endorsed the "Life in the South" where we enjoyed the Cajun cuisine and southern life style. After five years here we moved to Florida where we became accustomed to the "beach scene" and sub tropical climate. Then in 1976 we relocated to Germany to participate in another culture and lifestyle. Germany was a dream come true with lots of travel in the European theater, mainly camping and moving about in our Mercedes camper. The boys attended grade school on the base, but learned even more travelling. We made many good friends on base and off and look back on these five years fondly. in 1981 we moved back to Ft Walton Beach, FL where i was an instructor at the AF Special Operations School. We moved back into our home on Bradford Drive, after having rented it out for the duration we were in Germany. The boys finished off their high shool at Choctawhatchee High School and Diane was a substitute ay Pryor Jr. High. Will retired in 1987 and after a year off, moved to DC to begin a new job with the federal government. Diane joined him after the boys went off to college at Fla State U of FLA respectively. Life in DC was different than most of our previous life and we had some adjustments to make, like commuting. Diane later joined the Fed gov't work force but she still managed to accompany Will on many of his TDY's to exotic places like Spain, Peru, Italy, Slovenia, Costa Rica, Bulgaria, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico and Greece. After we had each put in 16 years with the feds, we retired and moved out to the Shenandoah Valley in western Virginia (not West Virginia) where we began to grow grapes and make wine while building our retirement home. Now, five years later, we own and operate the Wolf Gap Winery, selling fifteen different varieties of wine. Trouble is we are busy all the time. WE look forward to closing down a ...(read more) |
