About	George R. Harris, 61 30 Aug 1950 - 22 Jun 2012 Amherst High School - Class of 1962 "George R. Harris, 61 years of age, and a resident of Lorain, Ohio, went home to be with his Lord and heavenly family on June 22, 2012, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a long illness. George was born August 30, 1950, in Amherst, Ohio, where he was raised, and attended Amherst Schools, before moving to Lorain at the age of 18. George was employed at US Steel as an Equipment Operator in the Shipping Dept, and retired in 2007 after 38 years of service. In his teenage years, he worked with the Job Corp in Minnesota. George loved spending time with his family and grandchildren, and his love of the outdoors was evident in the time he spent camping, traveling, and gardening. He loved his dog, Beary. George was a kind and unselfish man, known to go great lengths in helping others. The family would like to acknowledge and thank New Life Hospice Residential Center for the excellent care George received during his illness. Also a special thank you to all of George's family and friends during this difficult time. Survivors include one son, George J. and his wife, Gina Harris of Lorain; one daughter, Jennifer Davis, of Lorain; four grandchildren: Ariana Harris, Byron Davis, Maisy Davis, Daniel Volk, Jr.; three brothers: John and his wife, Marilyn Noles, of Lorain; Robert and his wife, Vivian Noles, of Carrollton, Georgia; Thomas and his wife, Patricia Harris, of Lorain; three sisters: Judy Lengyel, of Lorain; Patricia Heinzerling, of Lorain, and Norma Kelley (Craig Britton), of Columbus. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his father, George G. Harris, his mother, Dorthea Noles (nee: Brucker); step-father John W. Noles, Sr. and two brothers: Raymond Harris, William Harris, and sister, Diane Alford. Friends may call on Tuesday, June 26, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 27, at 11:00 a.m. in the Funeral Home. The Rev. Thomas Shumate, Pastor of The Gathering Community Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, Ohio. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to New Life Hospice Residential Center, 5225 North Abbe Rd, Elyria, Ohio or the Alzheimers Association, Cleveland Area Chapter, POB 74924, Cleveland, Ohio 44194.
