"MESA, Arizona– Thomas M. Schoemig, 65, of Mesa, Arizona, died Tuesday, August 9, 2011, in Trillium Specialty Hospital.

Born July 21, 1946, in Oberlin, Ohio, he was the son of the late William Schoemig and the late Ruth E. (nee Pillivant) Schoemig Gasper. Mr. Schoemig was a 1965 graduate of Marion L. Steele High School in Amherst.

He participated in track and cross country and won several individual and team championships at local, district, and state levels.

Following graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was a Vietnam Veteran. He moved to Arizona in 1973 and was a graduate of Arizona State University.

He was a retired construction equipment mechanic, member of the American Legion Post 26 in Mesa AZ, past Commander of American Legion Post 39 in Gilbert, AZ, and life member of the VFW Post 1662 in Amherst, OH.
Surviving are his wife Kathleen Schoemig of Mesa, Ariz.; two step-daughters Marlene Falise-Segaert of Ahwatukee, Ariz. and DeAnne Falise of Chandler, Ariz.; two sisters, Judy (Chuck) Folop of Lawrenceburg, Ind. and Jane (Danny) Dean of Vermilion, OH; sister-in-law Kathleen Schoemig of Monroe, UT; one grandson; step-sister Joanne Espinosa of California, step-brothers Emil, Robert, and Thomas Gasper all of OH, and numerous nephews and nieces in Ohio, Indiana, and Utah.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William H. Schoemig of Monroe, UT in 1996; step-father Andrew Gasper of Amherst, OH in 2002; step-brother Richard A. Gasper of Broken Arrow, Okla. in July, 2011.

Friends will be received Saturday August 20 at 11:00 a.m., at American Legion Post 26 in Mesa, AZ .
