About	Gary Alan Trelka 22 Sep 1947 - 12 Jul 2011 Marion L Steele High School - Class of 1965 "AMHERST - Gary Alan Trelka, 63 years of age, and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a sudden illness. He was born September 22, 1947, in Lorain, Ohio. Gary was raised and had made his home in Amherst for the last fifty-five years and graduated from Amherst High School in the class of 1965. He was a graduate of The Ohio State University in 1970. Gary served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a meteorologist, SP5. While serving in the Army, Gary was a recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed as a manager at Amherst Hardware for sixteen years until their closing. Gary was also employed at Willow Hardware for fifteen years until its closing and enjoyed spending his spare time at Willow Rental. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. Gary loved nature, and was an avid naturalist; he loved birds, trees, meteorology and gardening. Survivors include his wife Janet Leota Reid-Trelka (nee: Brightbill); his son Nicholas Alan Trelka of Amherst; his daughter Allison Marie Trelka, DPT of Columbus; his stepson John Reid and his wife Theresa of Lorain; his stepdaughter Jennifer Street and her husband Ron of Vermilion; seven grandchildren; his mom Lucille Peggy Trelka (nee: Buganski) of Amherst; his brothers Robert Trelka of Akron; James Trelka of Girard, Ohio; his sisters Kathy Dudzik of Oak Harbour, Ohio and Karen Krajeski of Amherst. He was preceded in death by his father Edward Trelka in 1980. Friends may call Friday, July 15, 2011, from 2 - 4 and 7:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 8:30 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Michael J. Denk, associate pastor of St. Joseph Catholic Church, will officiate. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Lorain County Metro Parks; 12882 Diagonal Road, LaGrange, Ohio 44050.
